Jeddah: Saudi Arabia, represented by the National eLearning Center (NeLC), hosted the 24th meeting of the committee of e-learning officials from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) today. The meeting included deans and e-learning officials from GCC higher education institutions, along with experts in digital education and AI.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the gathering focused on strengthening Gulf cooperation in e-learning and sharing expertise in digital transformation and AI technologies. Key topics included strategic AI trends, governance in education, and practical applications to enhance learning environments. The meeting reviewed best practices from Saudi and Gulf universities and addressed regulatory frameworks to promote the safe use of modern technologies. The goal is to improve e-learning quality, expand AI capabilities, support innovation, and strengthen Gulf integration.
The meeting concluded with a call for continued joint action to adapt to global developments in e-learning. Final recommendations included adopting the strategic AI directions proposed by the NeLC as a reference model and developing a unified Gulf large language model (Gulf LLM) to enhance e-learning and AI systems in GCC universities.
