GCC 157th session, GCC-Japan Ministerial Council for Strategic Dialogue to be held next Thursday

Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), announced the convening of the Joint Ministerial Council between the GCC and the Empire of Japan, as well as the 157th session of the Cooperation Council on Thursday, September 7.

The meetings will take place at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Riyadh and will be chaired by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman and Chairman of the current session of the Ministerial Council.

It will be attended by Their Highnesses and Excellencies the Foreign Ministers of the GCC countries, as well as Yoshimasa Hayashi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

Albudaiwi emphasised the strength of the GCC-Japanese relations and the commitment of both sides to enhance strategic dialogue, and strive towards building strong, and close relations that serve the common interests of both parties in all fields and areas. This is based on the Memorandum of Understanding for Strategic Dialogue signed between the two sides in January 2012.

He stated that on the same day, the 157th session of the Ministerial Council will convene and discuss several reports regarding the implementation of decisions issued by the Supreme Council of the GCC during the 43rd Summit held in Riyadh.

The meeting will also address memoranda and reports submitted by ministerial and technical committees, as well as the General Secretariat. Topics related to dialogues and strategic relations between the GCC countries and international states and global blocs will be discussed, along with the latest regional and international developments, in addition to the evolving situation in the region
