GAC Engages in Marrakech Workshop on Digital Platforms

Marrakech: General Authority for Competition (GAC) CEO Dr. Fahad bin Ibrahim Alshathri participated in a specialized workshop on digital platforms in Marrakech, part of the International Conference on Digital Platforms organized by the Moroccan Competition Council. Dr. Alshathri emphasized the role of digital transformation as a significant driver of economic growth, highlighting the potential for entrepreneurs and small to medium-sized enterprises to leverage digital platforms for market access and competitiveness.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Dr. Alshathri pointed out the increased responsibility of regulatory authorities to safeguard competition, prevent restrictive practices, and support innovation. He stressed the need for a regulatory framework that encourages innovation while protecting consumers.

The workshop included discussions on challenges in regulating digital platforms and promoting fair competition in digital markets. Participants shared expertise on policies that support a competitive environment.

GAC’s involvement is part of Saudi Arabia’s initiative to enhance its presence in international forums and improve competencies in digital competition regulation, aiming to boost the digital sector’s efficiency and ensure a fair business environment.
