Foreign Minister Participates in 165th Ordinary Session of Arab League Council in Jordan

Amman: Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah participated in the resumed 165th ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, held in the Jordanian capital Amman on Monday.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the meeting reviewed progress in joint Arab action as well as ways to strengthen the Arab League system and develop its mechanisms to fulfill the aspirations of member states.

Ministers also discussed the latest regional and international developments, including welcoming the agreement between Iran and the United States. They stressed the importance of reducing tensions and creating conditions conducive to a comprehensive agreement that would enhance security and stability across the region.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Bahrain's Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani, who chairs the current session of the Arab League Council, formally announced the council's approval of the appointment of Nabil Fahmy as the new Secretary-General of the Arab League, under a mandate from Arab leaders, effective from the beginning of July.

Al Zayani, speaking on behalf of the council's member states, wished Fahmy success in leading the organization, advancing joint Arab action, and serving Arab causes.

Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Jordan Prince Mansour bin Khalid bin Farhan and Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the Arab League Abdulaziz Al-Matar attended the session.
