Riyadh: World Arabic Language Day, celebrated this year under the theme ‘Innovative Paths for the Arabic Language: Policies and Practices for a More Inclusive Linguistic Future,’ marks a significant initiative aimed at strengthening the Arabic language’s role in scientific and economic domains through the introduction of the Financial and Economic Terms Dictionary.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the dictionary is a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Finance, the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language, the Ministry of Economy and Planning, the Capital Market Authority, the Expenditure and Projects Efficiency Authority, the Real Estate General Authority, the National Debt Management Center, the National Center for Government Resource Systems, the National Center for Privatization, and the Financial Sector Development Program.
The dictionary seeks to standardize financial and economic terminologies and provide precise definitions in both Arabic and English. This initiative aims to elevate financial awareness, support specialized academic and media content, and enhance communication among government bodies, the financial sector, and the academic community.
Comprising over 2,000 terms, the dictionary offers exact Arabic definitions alongside their English counterparts, covering essential topics such as fiscal and monetary policies, investment, economic planning, financing instruments, and market tools.
Designed as a resource for education and awareness, the dictionary aims to support researchers, students, and decision-makers, improve performance quality, and facilitate scientific and professional communication within financial and economic institutions, making it a valuable addition to the Kingdom’s financial sector.
The dictionary’s launch is in alignment with this year’s World Arabic Language Day theme, showcasing a tangible effort to enhance the inclusivity of the Arabic language within financial and economic sectors and establish it as a knowledge-based tool supporting research and decision-making.
