Elite Tennis Stars Compete at WTA Finals 2025 in Riyadh

Riyadh: The 2025 WTA Tennis Finals began yesterday at King Saud University in Riyadh, marking the Kingdom’s second consecutive hosting of the event. Organized by the Saudi Tennis Federation and supervised by the Ministry of Sport, the tournament is sponsored by the Public Investment Fund.

According to Saudi Press Agency, day one featured intense competition, high attendance, and extensive media coverage, with elite international tennis stars participating. Poland’s Iga Swiatek defeated America’s Madison Keys, and Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina won against America’s Amanda Anisimova, both in the Serena Williams singles group.

In doubles, Italy’s Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani triumphed over America’s Asia Muhammad and the Netherlands’ Demi Schuurs. Taiwan’s Su-Wei Hsieh and Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko defeated Belgium’s Elise Mertens and Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova, both matches in the Martina Navratilova group.

Today, the tournament continues with matches in the Steffi Graf group: Belarus’s Aryna Sabalenka v
s. Italy’s Jasmine Paolini and America’s Coco Gauff vs. compatriot Jessica Pegula. Two doubles matches in the Liezel Huber group are also scheduled: Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski and New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe against Russia’s Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider, and the Czech Republic’s Katerina Siniaková and America’s Taylor Townsend against Brazil’s Luisa Stefani and Hungary’s Timea Babos.
