Diriyah Biennale Opens Doors to Creativity for Children with the Upcycling Wonderground Event

Diriyah: The Diriyah Biennale Foundation will open the doors tomorrow, Thursday, to the Studio Youth Upcycling Wonderground that will transform one of the biennale halls into a vibrant space filled with life and imagination, offering children an opportunity to discover new uses for materials featured in the exhibition, ahead of the conclusion of the third edition of the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale 2026.

According to Saudi Press Agency, taking place from June 4 to 6, 2026, in JAX District, the Studio Youth Upcycling Wonderground will transform reclaimed materials from the biennale into cardboard kingdoms, imaginary characters, puppet parades, drawing spaces, and caravans brimming with creativity and fun.

Children and families are invited to step through the Wonder Portal and into a world where nothing is wasted and everything is possible. The program unfolds across three immersive spaces. At the Wonder Portal, children intertwine and pull strips of colorful fabric to weave a growing wall of 1,000 tales, an ongoing textile installation led by artist Noor Alwan.

Under the Big Top, Nour Hourani guides young performers through the Little Clown Atelier, where children explore clowning through movement and imagination, learning to tell stories with exaggerated gestures and dramatic style. The Big Top also hosts daily theatrical performances of The Three Billy Goats Gruff and The Boy Who Cried Wolf by Kan Yama Kan.

At the Wonder Factory, strange inventions and marvelous creatures are built all day long from the biennale's reclaimed materials. The Studio Youth Upcycling Wonderground is open to all. The event welcomes children aged three and above.
