Makkah: Deputy Governor of Makkah Region and Vice Chairman of the Permanent Committee for Hajj and Umrah, Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz, chaired a meeting at the governorate headquarters attended by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Abdullah Alswaha, along with several leaders from the digital economy and technology sector.
According to Saudi Press Agency, during the meeting, the deputy governor reviewed the readiness of communications, technology, and artificial intelligence systems for the 1447 AH Hajj season. These systems play a crucial role in enabling government and service entities to deliver highly efficient digital services to pilgrims.
The discussions emphasized the application of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and remote sensing technologies to ensure a smooth pilgrim journey. These technologies aim to enhance crowd management, service efficiency, safety, and the overall experience in Makkah, the holy sites, and Madinah.
Significant developments have been made in the digital infrastructure of Makkah, the holy sites, and Madinah in preparation for the Hajj season. The number of communication towers has surpassed 5,230, representing a 2.55% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, more than 2,000 kilometers of fiber-optic networks were added within the holy sites, increasing the total network length to 31,000 kilometers, a 7.4% rise over the previous year, achieving full coverage across the holy sites.
Furthermore, over 4,200 personnel were assigned to the technical workforce during the Hajj season. The deputy governor also reviewed developments in technical skills and workforce development, noting the doubling of technology-related jobs in the region and a notable 36% female participation in the technology sector.
The meeting further highlighted programs and initiatives supporting entrepreneurship and fostering innovation.
