DCO Secretary General Meets with Egyptian Minister of Communications and IT, Arab League Secretary General

Cairo, The Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), Deemah AlYahya, has visited Cairo and held separate meetings with the Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Egypt, Dr. Amr Talaat, and the Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit, a press release from the DCO stated. During her meeting with Minister Dr.Talaat, AlYahya highlighted the opportunities for collaboration between the DCO and Egypt to achieve Egypt's digital transformation strategy. She emphasized that Egypt's economic strengths and goals align with the DCO's objectives, offering opportunities for growth and prosperity in the digital economy. AlYahya lauded the 'Digital Egypt Pioneers Initiative', which leads digital transformation by developing digital skills, fostering innovation, and supporting young talents and entrepreneurs. She affirmed the DCO's eagerness to cooperate with Egypt to achieve its ICT infrastructure goals and strengthen innovation ecosystems through public-private partn erships. She emphasized that the Egyptian government's digital inclusion and infrastructure development programs align with the DCO's strategic priorities. AlYahya added, "The Egyptian government has taken serious steps towards strengthening the digital economy by investing in digital infrastructure, developing e-government services, and supporting digital entrepreneurship. This is evident through efforts to enhance digital inclusion and empower women and youth in the digital economy, as well as the presence of a substantial number of companies operating in the digital economy. The Egyptian digital economy has many elements for growth. For example, reports indicate that digital investments in Egypt will reach $9.8 billion in 2028, and the same applies to digital payments, which are expected to reach $30.8 billion in 2028. The DCO is ready to collaborate with Egypt on its journey towards digital transformation and achieving sustainable development goals to reach an inclusive, prosperous, and sustainable dig ital economy." During the DCO's meeting with the Arab League, AlYahya and Aboul Gheit explored ways to harness the potential of the digital economy in Arab countries. AlYahya emphasized the importance of accelerating multilateral cooperation to enhance youth digital skills and foster cooperation between countries in promoting the digital economy. In a statement after the meeting, AlYahya said, "The Arab League plays a crucial role in the Arab world as the oldest regional intergovernmental organization. It was my pleasure to meet with Aboul Gheit to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the DCO and the Arab League. The DCO is already cooperating with the Arab League as an observer in the activities of the Council of Ministers of Information and Communications Technology of the Economic and Social Council, and we look forward to strengthening our cooperation, especially since the full digital economy system in the Middle East and North Africa region has the potential to add gains of approximately $1.6 t rillion to the GDP in the next thirty years."
