Riyadh: The crested lark is a wild bird found in a number of open areas across Northern Borders Region. It stands out in plains and sandy and gravelly terrain for its distinctive appearance and behavior, which are well adapted to desert environments.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Adnan Khalifa, a member of the Aman Environmental Association in the region, said the crested lark is common in desert and semi-desert environments. He noted that the bird is distinguished by a prominent crest atop its head that it can raise or lower, along with sandy-colored plumage that provides excellent camouflage and helps it avoid predators.

Khalifa added that the bird belongs to the lark family and feeds on seeds, grains, and small insects, making it an important part of the ecological balance by helping control insect pests and disperse wild plant seeds. He also noted that the crested lark is known for its melodious call and distinctive breeding behavior, building its nests directly on the ground among grasses and low shrubs.
