Conservation Efforts Lead to Revival of Salvia Spinosa in Northern Borders Region

Riyadh: The Salvia spinosa plant has made a notable comeback in Northern Borders Region after being absent for years due to environmental degradation and overgrazing.

According to Saudi Press Agency, member of the Aman Environmental Association Adnan Khalifa said that this perennial plant-characterized by broad leaves and small white flowers that typically bloom in February and March-began to reappear in the region following the implementation of conservation measures. These measures included reduced grazing and the regulation of environmental activities, which have significantly contributed to the revival of local vegetation.

Khalifa also noted that Salvia spinosa is a valuable medicinal plant, known for its insect-repellent properties. He emphasized that the ecological recovery extends beyond this plant, including other wild plant species that were previously threatened with extinction.
