Chinese President Opens Asian Winter Games in Harbin

Harbin: People’s Republic of China President Xi Jinping officially opened yesterday the 9th Asian Winter Games in the city of Harbin. The event marked the beginning of a significant sporting gathering in Asia, drawing athletes and dignitaries from across the continent.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the opening ceremony was attended by Vice President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Member of the Executive Office of the Olympic Council of Asia, Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed. His presence underscored the importance of the Asian Winter Games in fostering international sports relations.

The ceremony, held in a winter setting, featured a parade of the 30 participating countries. Attendees were treated to artistic performances reflecting Chinese cultural heritage, as well as fireworks displays that illuminated the city’s sky, marking the festive commencement of the event.

Notably, the Saudi flag was raised at the opening of the Games by Saudi alpine ski team athletes Fayik Abdi and Sherifa Al-Sudairi. This act symbolized the Kingdom’s participation and presence in the continental sporting event.

Abdi expressed his pride and honor in raising the Kingdom’s flag at the event alongside his teammate. He shared his hope for outstanding performances by himself and fellow Saudi athletes, aiming to uphold the Kingdom’s sporting reputation on this international stage.
