Riyadh: The Centre for Space Futures announced today the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the University of Bologna to strengthen cooperation in the fields of space law, regulation, and related policies, reflecting both institutions' commitment to advancing structured collaboration in areas of shared strategic importance.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the memorandum establishes a framework for joint research, professional training, internship programs, and capacity-building initiatives. It is designed to enhance academic-policy integration and support the development of governance approaches aligned with the evolving realities of space activities.
Through this cooperation, both parties aim to foster rigorous legal scholarship alongside practical policy engagement. Centre for Space Futures Managing Director Eng. Mishaal Ashemimry stated that the partnership reinforces the connection between academic expertise and applied policy development in the space sector. She noted that collaboration with the University of Bologna will strengthen specialized capabilities in space law and support informed engagement on emerging regulatory challenges.
She emphasized that closer cooperation between research institutions and policy actors is essential to ensuring responsible and sustainable growth in the sector. Head of the Department of Legal Studies at the University of Bologna Prof. Federico Casolari stated that the memorandum represents an important step in expanding collaboration between academia and global policy institutions. He highlighted that the partnership will broaden opportunities for joint research, advanced training, and academic exchange in the field of space governance.
He added that deeper institutional cooperation is increasingly necessary to address the complex legal and regulatory questions arising from the continued expansion of space activities. The Centre for Space Futures is a global and impartial center established in partnership with the World Economic Forum and the Saudi Space Agency to support the growth of the global space economy through policy recommendations, technology enablement, and cross-sector collaboration.
