Madinah: The Transport General Authority, in cooperation with Al Madinah Region Development Authority, launched the trial operation of the automated shuttle bus (Robobus) in the inner courtyard of Quba Mosque in Madinah.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the trial aims to assess the readiness of the service in vital locations, measure its efficiency and quality, improve the beneficiary experience, and support the future adoption of autonomous technologies and sustainable transport solutions.
The bus operates using artificial intelligence technologies, advanced sensing systems, and high-resolution cameras to ensure the highest safety standards for beneficiaries and pedestrians. Its route extends over 700 meters, serving worshippers and visitors and facilitating their movement through a modern, smart, and autonomous model. Trips depart from designated locations near entrances for male and female visitors, while fully adhering to the designated golf cart route to ensure organized movement and prevent deviation throughout the operation period.
The project reflects the Kingdom's ambitious direction toward investing in future technologies and supports the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 in digital transformation. The project gains particular importance following the designation of 2026 as the Year of Artificial Intelligence, reflecting the Kingdom's leadership in localizing smart transport technologies and providing a safe and advanced mobility environment for residents and visitors of Madinah.
