Aseer: In Aseer, farmers are applying traditional “tahbees” (confinement) techniques to boost the quality and quantity of their grape harvest. This practice, carried out as grapes sprout in May and ripen in July-August, involves pruning leafy branches that shade developing grapes to maximize sunlight exposure and sap flow to the fruit. It also improves ventilation and eliminates unnecessary foliage.
According to Saudi Press Agency, in addition to this method, farmers plow the soil to eliminate weeds that could negatively impact grape growth and yield.
The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture reported in March 2025 that the Kingdom’s 2023 grape production surpassed 122,278 tons, achieving a 66% self-sufficiency rate. This growth in local agriculture strengthens national food security and reduces dependence on imports.
