ARCO Participates in MENA Meeting to Prepare for Statutory Meetings of Red Crescent

The Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization (ARCO) participated yesterday in the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regional office meeting, to prepare for the statutory meetings of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in Geneva, slated for October 23 to 31.

The statutory meetings include that of the IFRC General Assembly, from October 23 to 25, which will review progress in the 2030 strategy; of the Council of Delegates, on October 27 and 28, which will discuss global humanitarian issues; and the 34th International Conference, from October 28 to 31, focusing on promoting a global culture of respect for international humanitarian law.

The conference will stress the need to uphold the core principles of the movement: responding to humanitarian needs and risks, enabling sustainable local action, exploring mechanisms for finding concrete humanitarian solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges, enforcin
g compliance with international humanitarian law, protecting civilians and humanitarian workers, supporting sustainable humanitarian work, and anticipating, preparing for, and adapting to the impacts of climate change.
