“ARCO” Concludes 46th Session in Riyadh

Riyadh-- The Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization (ARCO) concluded its 46th session, in Riyadh, themed "Unity for Humanity", under the patronage of Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Riyadh Region, and in the presence of the President of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, Dr. Jalal Al-Owaisi.

The session witnessed the attendance of delegations representing 21 Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross societies, in addition to the participation of observers and representatives of several international organizations, including the President of the International Federation of the Red Crescent and the Red Cross and the President of the Italian Red Cross, Francesco Rocca. The meeting approved several decisions including appealing to the international community to achieve the basic right of food security in the Arab region to face the shortage of grain supplies resulting from the war in Eastern Europe, which used to be imported from Russia and Ukraine, as they are the two largest exporters of these foodstuffs.

The organization was keen to express its appreciation to Saudi Arabia for its continuous support of the organization's general secretariat.

Dr. Al-Owaisi, Chairman of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, who is the Chairman of the current session, underlined that the regional and international developments under which the 46th session of the organization is being held put more responsibilities on the shoulders of the national societies of the Red Crescent and the Red Cross, and prompt them to intensify their efforts to continue their humanitarian role, to provide support for the neediest groups under any circumstances and without any discrimination.

In his address at the meeting, Dr. Al-Owaisi expressed his hope that this session would reflect the optimism and positive constructive spirit necessary to confront the difficult challenges facing the Arab region, noting the importance of strengthening and encouraging bilateral and collective cooperation programs among ARCO members to confront the future and its challenges with efficiency and competence.

Several tours were organized on the sidelines of the session where the participating delegations had the opportunity to be aquatinted of the capabilities of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority and the innovative technologies it utilizes in performing its tasks.
