Riyadh: The Arabian cat snake (Telescopus dhara) is a mildly venomous species belonging to the Colubridae family. It inhabits several arid and rocky environments across the Arabian Peninsula, benefiting from its ability to adapt to the environmental and climatic conditions of its natural habitats.

According to Saudi Press Agency, wildlife observer and member of Aman Environmental Association Adnan Khalifa noted that the Arabian cat snake is among the reptiles adapted to arid and rocky environments. He said that monitoring and documenting such species helps identify components of biodiversity, as well as the characteristics of wildlife species and their natural habitats.

He pointed out that the snake has a slender body, a head relatively distinct from the neck, and prominent eyes with vertical pupils. These features are associated with its common name, "cat snake." Its colors and body patterns also help it camouflage and blend in with the rocks and soil of its habitat.

The desert and rocky environments of northern Saudi Arabia are natural habitats for a number of reptile species adapted to the region's climate and terrain. Field monitoring and documentation help identify these species, their distribution, and the characteristics of the environments in which they live.
