Arab League Secretary General welcomes humanitarian truce in Yemen

Cairo, Arab League Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, welcomed the two-month humanitarian truce agreed to by the conflicting Yemeni parties, which went into force today.

Aboul Gheit said in a statement today that the truce is in compliance with the aspirations of the vast majority of the Yemeni people, whose suffering has been exacerbated by the seven-year war, expressing his appreciation for the efforts of the UN and the UN Envoy to help the parties reach a truce.

The Secretary-General appealed to all parties involved in the conflict in Yemen to respect the humanitarian truce, ensure a complete ceasefire throughout the country, and stop all military operations across the Yemeni border, allowing international and non-governmental organizations to carry out their work to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of Yemenis.
