Cairo: Arab League Assistant Secretary-General and Head of Economic Affairs, Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Maliki, has affirmed the League’s commitment to addressing migration and refugee issues in the region, stressing the need for accurate data to assist Arab countries in developing clear policies on these matters. Speaking on the sidelines of a workshop on migration and displacement statistics at the Arab League headquarters, Al-Maliki noted that many Arab countries are struggling with soaring numbers of refugees and displaced persons.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the three-day workshop, organized in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, aims to familiarize participants with international recommendations on displaced persons and enhance the capacity of member states to manage migration statistics. Participants include officials from statistical agencies and those responsible for producing migration and displacement data.
