Muscat: Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit welcomed the agreement signed in the Omani capital, Muscat, on the exchange of prisoners and hostages of various nationalities in Yemen.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Aboul Gheit described the agreement as an important humanitarian step that should be followed up and reinforced through further initiatives to secure the release of more prisoners and hostages in Yemen.
The Secretary General of the Arab League also commended the mediation efforts of Saudi Arabia, Oman, the Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen, and the International Committee of the Red Cross in reaching the agreement, expressing hope that it would help create conditions for a comprehensive resolution to the Yemeni crisis.
