Albudaiwi Highlights Key Role of Saudi Nuclear Commission in Ensuring Safety

Riyadh: Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Albudaiwi commended the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its vital role in overseeing facilities, activities, and practices involving nuclear and radiological techniques to ensure the application of top safety standards. He emphasized the necessity of securing nuclear and radiological facilities and materials, and maintaining commitments to international treaties and agreements that Saudi Arabia is part of. These comments were made during his visit to the commission, where he was received by the commission’s CEO, Dr. Khalid Al-Issa.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the GCC secretary-general underlined the significance of enhancing cooperation and coordination among GCC nations through the GCC Emergency Management Centre and the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission. The goal is to achieve common objectives effectively.

Furthermore, Albudaiwi mentioned that discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between both parties, including conducting joint activities, mutual field visits, and organizing training sessions for GCC citizens. He also toured the commission’s facilities and was briefed on the latest technologies and operations at the Nuclear and Radiological Emergency Operations Centre.

Concluding his visit, Albudaiwi praised the commission’s efforts in managing nuclear and radiological emergencies and fostering a culture of nuclear safety to ensure the security, protection, and regulation of related activities, practices, and facilities.
