Jazan: Al-Balad Ramadan Market in Jazan, organized by Jazan Municipality during the holy month of Ramadan, has rekindled interest in traditional folk games that were once popular in the region. The market’s events featured several old folk games, including Carrom, Dominoes, Foosball, and Al-Murqa’a.
According to Saudi Press Agency, through these activities, locals have found an opportunity to relive memories of traditional folk games that once transformed streets and alleys into arenas for running, jumping, and throwing competitions. Over time, these games became an integral part of the region’s social heritage, strengthening community bonds among neighborhood residents and village members of all ages. They also played a role in fostering courage, chivalry, teamwork, endurance, quick thinking, and good decision-making skills.
Historically, the people of Jazan played these games for entertainment and leisure, establishing rules that suited their environment. Over the years, they became a cultural heritage reflecting a bygone era.
