After a hiatus that lasted more than a quarter of a century, the Minister of Trade announces the arrival of the first train carrying a thousand tons of Australian wheat

The Minister of Trade, Atheer Dawood Al-Ghurairi, announced today, Tuesday, the arrival of the first train carrying a thousand tons of Australian wheat to the Shirqat silo, coming from Umm Qasr Silo, after a stop that lasted more than a quarter of a century.

The media office said in a statement, quoting the Director General of the General Company for Grain Trade, Haider Al-Karaawi, “The Shirqat silo received the first train loaded with a thousand tons of Australian wheat imported through the port of Umm Qasr for the ration card, with an official ceremony attended by the Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibas Al-Saadawi.”

He pointed out that the arrival of the train after a hiatus that lasted more than twenty-five years is a major achievement for the Iraqi government, as the Minister of Trade’s follow-up to work with the railways played the largest role in the train’s arrival at the Shirqat silo.”

He explained that "the grain company's insistence and communication with the railways company were able to restart transportation through the railway fleet to be the national carrier in transporting wheat from the port to the sites that have the entrances and exits of the railway networks."

The media office confirmed in its statement that “the railway company was the one that rehabilitated and maintained the railway networks, as the trains reached Al-Muthanna, Al-Nasiriyah, Khan Dhari and Al-Taji.”
