Paris: France and 14 other Western nations have made a collective appeal for the global recognition of a Palestinian state, as announced by France’s top diplomat on Wednesday. The call was articulated in a joint statement by the foreign ministers of 15 countries, following a conference in New York. The event was co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia and focused on reviving the two-state solution between Israelis and the Palestinians.

According to Nam News Network, the statement was a significant diplomatic gesture aimed at encouraging countries worldwide to acknowledge the State of Palestine. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot highlighted the initiative by writing on X that France, alongside 14 other nations, is urging those who have yet to recognize Palestine to join this collective effort. This move marks a pivotal stance by France and its partners in advocating for Palestinian statehood.

The statement, which included endorsements from countries such as Spain, Norway, and Finland, underscored the unwavering commitment of these nations to the vision of a two-state solution. Notably, nine of the signatory countries, which have not yet formally recognized the Palestinian state, expressed their willingness or positive consideration to do so. Among these nations are Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, indicating a potential shift in their foreign policy stance towards Palestine.

This diplomatic push could see France and its European allies, such as the UK under the leadership of Starmer, becoming the first G7 nations to officially recognize the Palestinian state. The collective appeal represents a concerted effort by these Western nations to invigorate international dialogue and action towards achieving lasting peace in the Middle East.
