11 dead and 8 missing in landslides resulting from heavy rains in Nepal

Heavy rains in Nepal resulted in landslides and torrential rains, killing at least 11 people during the past 36 hours, and the rains also caused the closure of major roads, according to officials reported on Sunday. The police spokesman explained that eight people are still missing, either swept away by torrents or buried by landslides, while 12 people were injured and required treatment in hospitals. In the capital, Kathmandu, surrounded by hills, several rivers burst their banks, submerging roads and many homes. It is noteworthy that Nepal, with its mountainous nature, witnesses hundreds of deaths annually as a result of landslides and frequent torrents during the monsoon wind and rain season, which usually begins in mid-June and continues until mid-September.
