Saudi Green Building Forum to Participate in UNEA-7 in December

Nairobi: The Saudi Green Building Forum (SGBF), a non-governmental organization with consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and accredited as an observer to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), is set to participate in the upcoming seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7). The assembly is scheduled to take place at the UNEP Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, from December 8 to 12, 2025, under the theme “Advancing Sustainable Solutions for a Resilient Planet.”

According to Saudi Press Agency, prior to the official opening ceremony, the SGBF will host a side event titled ‘Building the Future Together: Local Solutions for Global Goals’ in the Green Room, designated as Conference Room 14. This event aims to foster dialogue among international organizations, representatives from the public and private sectors, and civil society participants. It will also include delegations from Member States and the UN Major Groups and Other Stakeholders.

Faisal Al-Fadl, Secretary-General of SGBF and the official facilitator of the Business and Industry Major Group within UNEP’s Major Groups and Stakeholders mechanism, stated that the participation of SGBF underscores its commitment to its observer role within the UN system. He emphasized the significance of local solutions in bridging the gap to implement global goals practically, highlighting the role of empowering local communities and strengthening cross-sector partnerships in achieving balanced development that benefits both people and the planet.

This initiative is part of SGBF’s broader efforts to represent business and industry organizations within the UN Major Groups. By facilitating open dialogue between stakeholders, it seeks to advance cooperation and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at both local and global levels.
