Cases that Need Health Care, Hospitalization and Admission to Critical Care are Mostly of Individuals who have not Completed Vaccination Doses

Riyadh, Official Spokesman of the Ministry of Health Dr. Mohammed Al-Abdulaali said that the world is witnessing the highest rate of daily cases since the beginning of the pandemic with the last wave registering the highest rate compared to previous waves of the coronavirus, due to the rapid spread of the omicron variant globally.

In his daily briefing, he added that the epidemiological curve in the Kingdom records a wave that matches with the global wave and a high acceleration in the rate of daily cases within the last four days. It is expected to continue to increase, however, the acceleration may decrease by adhering to the preventive precautions and receiving the necessary vaccines, he said.

Al-Abdulaali added that cases that need health care, hospitalization and admission to critical care are of those who have not completed the two doses of vaccines, stressing that the booster dose is binding for those recovering from the virus, as it reduces the chances of infection with the mutants, and reduces the chances of infection with the virus. Pregnant women need a booster dose, he went on to say.

He stressed that the specialized studies indicated that long-term or persistent symptoms after infection with the COVID-19 virus may last for weeks or months, but completing immunization protects from long symptoms, adding that the number of doses given in the Kingdom exceeded more than 51 million doses, with more than 23.1 million individuals are fully immune.
