Arab Parliament Affirms the Importance of Jerusalemites’ Participation in Palestinian Elections

The Arab Parliament strongly condemned the Israeli occupation's intransigent decision to prevent Palestinian residents in occupied Jerusalem from participating in the Palestinian elections, which prompted Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to postpone the elections that were set for the 22nd of this month.

In a statement issued today, the Arab Parliament reiterated that the Israeli intransigence represents a flagrant violation of the agreements signed with the State of Palestine in this regard, as well as a challenge to the will of the international community that welcomes and strongly supports the holding of the elections in all Palestinian governorates and cities, especially the occupied city of Jerusalem.

It urged the international community to intervene and pressure Israel to reverse its decision and to allow the Palestinian voters in occupied Jerusalem to exercise their natural, legal and constitutional right to participate in the Palestinian elections and to remove all obstacles facing them in this regard, calling to set a new date for the elections as soon as possible.
