AlUla, The Venice Biennale, held from April 16 to 30, hosts a special exhibition of works by Wadi AlFann artists, from AlUla Governorate, titled 'Journeys in Land Art, Towards Wadi AlFann, AlUla', which aims to introduce the governorate's cultural and natural diversity. The exhibition puts the spotlight on the first five artists commissioned to create works of art displayed at Wadi AlFann: Manal AlDowayan, Agnes Denes, Michael Heizer, Ahmed Mater, and James Turrell. Mater, Brazil-based curator of the Desert X AlUla Marcello Dantas, and Saudi Artist Dana Awartani took part in a panel discussion held in parallel with the exhibition. The session was moderated by Cultural Planning Director at the Royal Commission for AlUla Annette Gibbons-Warren. Participants talked about creating art amidst nature, since AlUla is characterized by its unique desert that has been associated with successive civilizations throughout the ages. Wadi AlFann will be a new global cultural destination for contemporary artists, with era -defining works by some of the most compelling artists from around the world permanently placed on a site in the desert of AlUla spanning 65 square kilometers.
