The Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar bin Ibrahim Al-Khorayef, recently visited the Federal Republic of Switzerland to strengthen trade relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and Switzerland in the industrial and mining sectors. During his visit, he met with a number of Swiss company officials to explore opportunities for cooperation and investment.

The Minister of Industry held a meeting with the Chief Investment Officer of K-CAP Holdings and a meeting with the Chief Operating Officer of OC Oerlikon, the CEO of Glencore, and the Director of the Swiss Association of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Industries. The meetings focused on discussing potential areas for collaboration between the two countries in the industry and mining sectors.

In addition, he visited the headquarters of the Swiss Nestle company and the executives of the PIECH company, where he discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation in transferring knowledge and localizing the industry. He also visited the research center of the multinational ABB Group.

The discussions during the bilateral meetings and field visits centered on attracting quality investments in targeted sectors to achieve the goals of the National Industry Strategy and the Kingdom's Vision 2030, and to review the promising opportunities offered by the industrial and mining sectors in the Kingdom.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) launched today a first-of-its-kind specialized training program in collaboration with SAP Global, a market leader in enterprise solutions, that will deepen the Kingdom’s digital talent.

The program comes as part of Saudi Arabia’s ambitions efforts to advance its technology sector and digital economy. The Kingdom is pursuing ambitious plans to further strengthen its position as a regional tech and digital talent incubator hub.

MCIT Vice Minister Eng. Haytham AlOhali and SAP Global officials attended the inauguration of the program in Riyadh. The ministry and SAP signed a memorandum of understanding in February at the global tech conference LEAP in Saudi Arabia, which has now the largest tech market in the Middle East at $42 billion.

The program will develop the skills of more than 55 talented Saudis in basic and emerging technologies that are quickly redefining the future of the world we live in. The program will also teach soft skills needed for senior leadership roles.

Workers from leading companies and institutions will be selected to participate in the program. These include: NEOM, Qiddiya, Diriyah Gate Development Authority, the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Sports, Riyadh Airports, SATORP, KAUST, Solutions by stc, and SEVEN. Top graduates from the Saudi Digital Academy, who are beneficiaries of the MCIT Future Skills Initiative, will also be selected.

The program underscores MCIT’s ongoing effort to support and empower Saudis with state-of-the-art technical experience as well as knowledge of SAP software, which includes data analysis, machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), metaverse, quantum statistics, and application development using SAP HANA.

The Ministry has targeted the development of digital capabilities in Saudi Arabia as it invests in future projects and encourages innovation, digital entrepreneurship and investments under the ambitious Vision 2030 program.
