Ani: There Is No Political Consensus So Far On A Candidate For The Speaker

BAGHDAD, A member of the House of Representatives for the National Axis Alliance Dhafer al-Ani said, "There is no political consensus so far on a candidate for the presidency of parliament from the seven names nominated to the post."

He told the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) "the political incompatibility is not only among Sunnis, but the other components / Shiites and Kurds / have not agreed so far on their candidates for prime minister and the presidency of the Republic."

"So far, we have not reached a candidate for parliament presidency and I do not think the Sunnis can agree on a single candidate.

He stressed that "everyone will be in front of the status quo in the meeting next Saturday and we must submit candidates whether we reached an agreement or, we will be vote." Expressing hope that "there are at least understandings to shorten the number of candidates to as few as possible."

Al-Ani attributed the lack of agreement to the candidates of the three presidencies because of "the absence of the political project while party or personal projects shown on the surface, which are usually within the spoils of power and gains and positions."

The House of Representatives announced two days ago that the President of age, Muhammad Ali Zinni will run the parliament session scheduled to be held on Saturday 15/9/2018, which will be for electing the Speaker of the House of Representatives and his deputies.
