Manama, Work on hundreds of housing units at the residential Khalifa Town project is nearing completion.
The construction of more than 1100 units has so far reached up to 95%, said Housing Ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Housing Projects Sami Abdulla Bouhaza'a.
In a statement today, he said that work on the infrastructure components has reached so far 80%, expecting the overall project to be completed late this year.
The current phase of the project is being constructed on two stages in the area between the villages of Riyadh Askar and Bar Al-Dur.
Bids were invited to work on the designs of the upcoming stages of the Khalifa Town Project, which will provide 6000 units and accommodated 54,000 people when completed.
Bouhaza'a stressed the ministry's strenuous efforts to fast-track work on the project to meet the demands of citizens who are eligible to obtain units in this project.
He said that the same procedure would be applied in other key projects, citing mainly the Slman Town, the East Hiid Town and the Al-Ramli housing project, which are under construction.
He the Government's keenness on carrying out the Khalifa Town project which represents a key cornerstone of the Government Action Plan (GAP) to contruct 25,000 units.
He underlined the royal directives which were issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa to fast-track the construction of 40,000 housing units across Bahrain.
