President Michel Aoun on Monday highly valued the efforts undertaken by the European Union's Election Observation Mission (EOM), stressing that he will follow up on the mission's final recommendations on Lebanon's May 6 parliamentary polls with the upcoming government.
His remarks came during his meeting with EOM Chief Elena Valenciano, who visited Baabda palace to hand Aoun the final report on the elections' course.
EU Ambassador to Lebanon Christina Lassen and the mission's members attended the talks.
"The mission's evaluation of the Lebanese parliamentary elections is very positive," Valenciano said, hoping "the political life in Lebanon will resume with the formation of a new government deriving from the elected House of Parliament."
She also underlined that the EU was ready to cooperate with the upcoming government in continuation of the democratic process in Lebanon.
For his part, the President expressed relief over the EOM evaluation, vowing to follow up on its recommendations, especially regarding the necessity to enhance women's representation in the new Cabinet.
Aoun also promised to work on developing the public institutions' performance and to resume the economic and political reforms, hoping the new government will be formed in the nearest time.
